WHAT IS THE COUNTY COMMITTEE ON SCHOOL DISTRICT REORGANIZATION?

The County Committee on School District Reorganization has a major role in the review and approval of proposals to change school district organization in the county. The County Committee exists under the authority of the California Constitution and acts of the legislature of the State of California and the regulations of the California State Board of Education.​

WHO SERVES ON THE COUNTY COMMITTEE?​

The County Committee consists of eleven members - two representatives from each supervisorial district and one member serving at-large. County Committee members are elected at an annual meeting of school trustee representatives. The term for office is four years​.

WHAT IS SCHOOL DISTRICT REORGANIZATION?

An action to reorganize schoold districts can refer to any one of the following items:  transfer of territory between or among school districts, unification or deunification, formation of new districts, dissolution or lapsation of a district, annexation of all or part of a district.

WHERE IS THE SPECIFIC AUTHORITY FOR THE COUNTY COMMITTEE?

Authorization for the County Committee and its actions can be found in the California Education Code

Sections 4000, et. seq., and 35500 et. seq., and the California Administrative Code, Title 5.​​​
